We heard the insights of industry leaders into the ways that the ecosystem model informs API plans and priorities, platforms-as-a-product connect these and how to realise the internal benefits of this model successfully.

We held interactive round-table discussions on the participation in the API Economy as a reflection of business strategy on the topics of:

Ecosystem-driven economy - the tech leader's perspective

  • How far along are people with their shift from products & services to ecosystem thinking?

  • How important is clarity around this type of thinking for informing day-to-day decisions?

  • Is it realistic to need to focus on just one model, or can multiple be supported / supportable?

Platform as a product - the API platform leader's perspective

  • What are examples of where platform-as-a-product thinking is working well?

  • What has to be right for this to work?

  • What are the practical ways to encourage investment and adoption to this way of thinking?

APIs as products - the internal proposition

  • What are the most impactful ways to grow APIs-as-products understanding and adoption?

  • How do people and teams learn about and make the shift “from project to product” mindset?

  • What resistance to API Products have been experienced / foreseen from internal forces, and how is it best mitigated?
